What is Environmental Science?
Environmental Science is a relatively new 'A' level subject which is gaining in status and popularity. The course provides students with an opportunity to study a wide range of issues of environmental importance. The understanding of these issues is founded on clear knowledge of certain scientific principles and concepts, with much emphasis on the study of environmental issues on both a local and a global scale. The themes covered are as diverse as population control, mineral extraction, ecosystem functioning and environmental conservation.
What other subjects go well with Environmental Science?
Almost any Science or Humanities subject would complement Environmental Science well. Biology, Business Studies, Politics and Sociology are particularly suitable choices.
What will I gain from studying the subject?
The 'A' level provides a robust background to any environmental course that students may wish to pursue at University and can lead to a range of careers related to the environment. It is also valuable in its own right for those who wish to improve their awareness and understanding of a range of environmental issues.
Do I have an aptitude for the subject?
Students taking the course should have a keen interest and awareness of environmental issues and be prepared to look well beyond the basic ideas of areas such as global warming or pollution.
