What is English Language?

This subject involves the study of the English Language from its origins to the present day. It covers changes and developments in vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation. This involves studying examples of English from the seventeenth century to the modern era, and analysing them in terms of these features using the terminology of linguistics. Apart from the theory, the subject includes practical studies of authentic written and spoken English from a broad range of sources. Language studies form an important part of the written examination together with essays.
